"Sleep Alone" was released as the lead single from Beacon on 20 July 2012. Two Door Cinema Club teased a second album throughout 20, frequently playing the songs "Handshake", "Settle", " Sleep Alone", and "Wake Up" live before the album was announced. The album was recorded in Los Angeles with producer Jacknife Lee in his home studio. Which is probably why this song interests me so much.Beacon is the second studio album by Northern Irish indie rock band Two Door Cinema Club, released on 31 August 2012 by Kitsuné. I seem to be a hopeless romantic and enjoy love stories. And the thought of having a love that is difficult but trying to work through it is touching. Although I don’t understand the message he is trying to say, I really like how later in the song he references that verse again by saying, “Over and over many setting suns/ I have run, I have waited for the rain to come/ When through that mist I see the shape of you/ And I know, and I know that I’m in love with you” These lyrics give the audience a feeling of “awe” when he states he is in love with her. I can’t seem to understand what these lyrics mean “ I built a hive/ Became one with the bees/ But we fell like rain/ Got lost into the sea”. The hook or the chorus of this song is “Though/ I’m far away/ I know I’ll stay, I know I’ll stay/ Right there with you/ And though/ It might be too late/ What would you say? What would you say?/ What would you do?” My summary of these lyrics is he is far away (possibly on tour) but he is still loyal to her and he wants to know if she will do the same? I guess he hardly get’s to go home and he wants to be with her. He is wondering if she will wait for his return home. The first couple of verses are about when he (the singer) is busy and away, but being in love with a girl back home. Then the lyrics say, “Drawn apart/ New York and London/ All I see now/ Are distant drumlins. The roads I knew/ Became a city/ Then I wonder/ Will you wait for me, oh” So in my mind this is what I think the lyrics mean. I think he is trying to say that the ocean has come between two people. The lyrics start out catchy, “Ocean blue/ What have I done to you/ Cut so deep/ Yet growing through and through”. I’m trying to figure out if this has some underlying meaning. Listen to this song and maybe you can help me figure out the underlying meaning. One song that has been stuck in my head for quite some time now is Sun by Two Door Cinema Club.
